Yes, I know….it’s been a while! Sorry! But you Momma’s know how it is. Life happens and then you have to pick up the pieces and put it back together again.
So, for the last two months, I have been really focused on self-care and learning to be consistent in the things that I do. As a mom, we have a tendency to take on EVERYTHING and EVERYONE until we are so overwhelmed that it seems like the walls are closing in on us. There never seems to be enough hours in the day, no one can find clean socks (or a matching sock!), there are no more snacks and there’s nothing to eat (even though you just received an Instacart order!). On top of all of that, your doctor tells you that you have high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and a pituitary adenoma. Yeah, all of that!
It’s easy for us to focus on the people around us and making sure they are ok, but sometimes as much as we ignore it, our own health will make us slow down. I had to make some changes in my life that involved creating healthier habits. I realized that I would be no good to my family and those that depend on me if I don’t take care of me first.
Starting March 26, I enrolled in a kickboxing class. I figured this would kill two birds with one stone. It was a healthy outlet for the stresses of life AND it was a great workout! I have been consistently going 3 times a week since March. I’ve dropped a few pounds and overall I feel more energetic. My blood pressure is getting better and my A1C level is almost to back to normal. I’ve always had trouble sticking to a workout plan so I was determined to keep it up. Consistency definitely is key. I struggled for the first couple of weeks but after that, I didn’t want to miss a class. I actually enjoy going! My plan for the future is to incorporate additional workouts on my off days and trying out various healthy meal plans. So stay tuned as I bring you guys along on my health and wellness journey!
Oh, and one last thing….I chopped off my hair!!! But that’s a story for another day! Stay tuned! 🙂
